It is necessary to apply for a visitor visa for students to be able to travel between their home country and Canada without facing any issue.
When you are granted a study permit while you’re out of Canada, and don’t already have a valid visitor visa, you are also granted a one-time entry visa to attend your studies.
However, if you apply for a study permit from within Canada or extend your existing study permit while you’re in Canada, you won’t automatically be granted a visitor visa. If you need a new visitor visa to re-enter the country as a student, you may need to submit a separate application.
