The Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR) program is a pioneering Canadian refugee resettlement program. Private Sponsorship of Refugees allows private groups or organizations to sponsor eligible refugees who are outside of Canada. As the private sponsor, the group will commit to supporting the refugee for the sponsorship period, usually up to 1 year.
The support you will provide through the private sponsorship of refugees program may include, but not limited to:
Only groups can sponsor refugees. As members of organizations, associations and groups, citizens and residents can sponsor refugees overseas as any of following:
Sponsorship Agreement Holders (SAH) sign agreements with the Government of Canada to help support refugees when they come to Canada.
Constituent Groups are groups who work with SAHs to sponsor refugees under the SAH’s agreement.
Groups of Five are groups of 5 or more Canadian citizens or permanent residents who sponsor refugees to settle in their communities.
Community Sponsors are organizations, associations or corporations that sponsor refugees.
